Bathroom Updates & Expansions

By |April 30th, 2019|

I've been remodeling a lot of bathrooms lately.  Mainly really complicated alterations or expansions to make a space more usable.  Despite the utilitarian nature of some of my recent projects, many of them also have turned out beautifully. I can install custom tile curb-less showers, heated floors, custom glass panels and doors, cabinetry and countertops, luxury vinyl plank flooring, custom trim, and much more. I'm excited to soon post photos of an expansion I'm in the middle of involving a custom pebbled tile shower pan with a low curb, a custom cut glass wall and door, and new fixtures texture [...]

Custom Building Solutions

By |April 30th, 2019|

Think your project is too funky?  I'm not scared.  I specialize in finding custom solutions for funky-ness. Whether you want to expand an upstairs bathroom of a 100 year old farmhouse for which no plan was ever made to get shower drain plumbing to the sceptic tank:      Or maybe you want to make a total disaster zone usable while you wait for permits to rebuild your dream home:      Or update a badly outdated basement bathroom with rotted plumbing that requires cutting into the concrete floor and replacing drain line plumbing:      Or match custom trim and finish a [...]

Yes… I drive a Jeep

By |April 30th, 2019|

A prospective customer recently told me "You're a contractor, get a Truck!" Well... I've thought about it... quite a lot actually.  I would do it in a heartbeat if it made good business sense.  But at the end of the day my Jeep has a V8 engine that pulls my trailer with ease, gets better gas mileage than most large trucks, can fit into smaller spaces, and can be unhooked from the trailer at the end of the day to become a convenient grocery getter and camping rig for family trips (while getting even better gas mileage than it does [...]

Way Back When

By |April 30th, 2019|

The first time I ever used a hammer drill was for the installation of rock climbing anchors in the Rocky Mountains 10 years ago... I never thought I would be using a hammer drill on a regular basis to attach houses and decks to foundations all these years later. In fact, a huge number of things that I use on my building projects today are like that.  I was 13 when my family moved out of town onto acreage and my Dad decided to build a barn.  No permits, no plans, and no experience, but my Dad had a vision [...]

My Helper

By |April 30th, 2019|

I'm looking forward to the time when my son becomes a helper, even now it happens occasionally.  At this writing he's almost 6 years old and spends hours with his miniature hammer and full size roofing nails building such things as boats and cars, and begging me to begin building the castle he's drawn plans for. I'm still not sure where we are going to build this seven story tall play structure... I'm going to have to consult with the architect and alter the drawings. Whether he becomes a builder (My competition? Probably...), or does something entirely different, is not [...]

Bedroom Converted to Apartment

By |April 29th, 2019|

Sometimes you need some room to yourself! This home in Mount Vernon is shared and has bedrooms upstairs and downstairs. However, the only showers in the house are on the second story.  Why?  No idea.  Fortunately a small office was immediately adjacent to the 1/2 bathroom that was located on the main floor of the home.  This allowed space to expand the bathroom to accommodate a custom built low-curb tile shower and a new vanity. The layout of the house is also fortunately conducive to creating a separate living space since a hallway leads to the bedroom, bathroom, and storage [...]
